Game 25
Orlando Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
A duel in Austin led to the longest game in CBL history. Neither team wanted to lose, and neither starting pitcher was going to let that happen. Chuck James struggled early, the first 5 batters got on, but retired the next 3 strait with the bases loaded. Joe Crede hit a solo shot in the 2nd, then in the 3rd to tie, Oscar Robels hit a solo shot. That tie didn't last long. Matt LeCroy singled in Spivey to make it 3-2. Pete LaForest led off the next inning, and hit the 3rd solo home run of the game. For the next 3 innings, no run were given up, and thats 4 pitchers doing that. Then, with Brazelton on the mound, Sean Casey tripled, then Junior Spivey comes up big with a walk off home run to win.

Virginia Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms
Notes
If Virginia's offense remained hot, they could make a run for the cup. Well, they did. In the first, two doubles combined for 3 rbis and a 3-0 lead. But Milton struggled. A solo home run to Valentin in the fist, then 4 base hits, including a triple by Valentin, made it 5-3 Cyclones. But that did not last long. Hank Blalock hit his second homer in 2 games with Mientkiewicz on base. Bigbie, Crosby, and Holliman all got hits for a total of 4 runs int he 3rd. The game was on lock as no runs were scored after, and the Bums are a team that can make some people turn heads.

Game 24
Orlando Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
A battle for first place headlined this set of games. Offense was hardly needed in this game, due to the top pitchers this season were going mano-y-mano. Zambrano gave up a solo shot to Juan Francia in the second, then a solo shot to Shannon Stewart the following inning. On the flip side, Kip Wells had a two hitter through 3. Then in the 5th, Ben Grieve singled in Choo Freeman for a 3-0 lead, which Wells kept for the win.

Virginia Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms
Notes
Maybe Omaha could be a spoiler to the teams wanting to make the playoffs. After taking 2 from Austin, Virginia was next. They got down early. 4 runs were scored in the first, Everett homered, then bases were loaded by singles, then 2 walks and a double all added on. Then next inning, Hall tripled, and Blalock hit his first homer of the year to make it 6-0. Reitsma came in, and in the 4th, Byrnes hit a 2 run homer off of him making it 8-0. Omaha did spare some run, Crosby hit a bases loaded single off of Nieve, and Vidro homered off of Anderson in the 5th. Anderson retired the side for an 8-2 win.

Game 23
Omaha Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
Austin was wanting a series win against the last place Cyclones. Sidney Ponson was up against one of the worst pitchers this season. Kason Gabbard had his best game by far. In the first, Mathews walked, and Vidro homered to start the game. Then in the second the last 3 batters in the order got on, then Vidro hit a grand slam. It was all Clones as Gabbard held them to a shut out, and gave the ball over to Julio for the save.

Orlando Uniforms - Portland Uniforms
Notes
A pivotal game in the CBL, if Portland wins, they would be second, and the M's would have to play their way in. Doug Waechter pitched good, but Chacon was better. In the first, Freeman tripled, then MVP candidate Brent Abernathy doubled him in. Waechter retired the next 11 batters, but Chacon shut down the Trappers. In the 4th, he walked the bases loaded, then Simon singled in Sexson, then got the next two batters out to end the inning. The tie didn't last long. Joe Crede hit a solo homer, then Francia hit a 2 run homer after LaForest walked. Bonser saved the last inning in 4 batters for the 11th win for the M's

M's Release Elarton
Aging Scott Elarton was released from the Orlando roster following his 1/3rd of an inning performance against the Trappers. The first pitcher in M's history has not lived up to expectations. A 6 point pitcher for season 1, lost a point due to poor performance, and now is 1-4 with an ERA of 12.5.
M's have signed Jason Jennings, who was a free agent, and now is on the roster for the rest of the season. A 5 point pitcher is crucial for the stretch run for the Taylor Cup.

Game 22
Omaha Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
A game that was decided quickly, slows down the Roughnecks. In the first, Josh Pappelbon gave up 3 runs. He walked Mathews, Vidro and Monroe doubled, then Jeremy Hermida tripled in Monroe. But from that point on, both pitchers brought their Man-arms. 0 runs for 4 complete innings. In the bottom of the 5th, Prior gave up a homer to Damian Rolls. He could've lost it there, but got the next 3 people out, and a W.

Notes
Scott Elarton pretty much had one chance of redemption, just not implode so early. Well, that didn't happen Portland batted around on him, and scored 7 runs. That caused BJ Ryan to come into the game, who got the next two batters out. Willis gave up 2 solo shots to Hillenbrand and Crede int he second, then int he 3rd, Abernathy made it 7-3 with a homer of his own. The next 2 batters walked, then Crede tripled them in, making the league RBI leader have 19 on the year. 7-5 going into the bottom of the 4th, Portland got an insurance run by 2 singles, a walk, and an rbi single by Simon. Eric Gagne continued his shut out season with the save.

Game 21
Omaha Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
The Trappers got a great draw into who they play to start the second half of the season. To start the bottom of the fist, Dukes hit a solo home run. The, next inning, the team went off. The first 6 batters got on, and Rocco Baldelli hit a grand slam to wrap it up, and knock out Backe. When Julio came in, he got two batters out, then Munson hit a homerun for himself. Down 8-0, the Clones scored 4 runs in the 4th, lead by Hermida's 2 run home run. Then, bottom of 4, Casey and Spivey doubled, to be tripled in by Preston Wilson, his second of the day. Sanchez came into save the game, but let one run score before he could end it.

Chuck James was going up against Kaz Tadano. James has been struggling all year, while Tadano gave up his only runs his last start. Things started off bad for the Trappers. Kaz walked 3 batters, then gave up a two out Home Run to Joe Crede. That would come to be enough. James hurled, and gave up just 2 solo home runs to Burroughs and Giles, as the M's held off the Trappers 4-2

Notes
Coming off their break, the Roughnecks were now tied with the M's for first. Luckily, the pitching match up was in their favor. A 3-0 Zambrano was up against a 0-3 Gabbard. In the first, Casey doubled in Baldelli, then Junior Spivey tee'd off for a 2 run shot. Next inning, the 'Clones answered back when Ensberg homered with Atkins on making it 3-2. Then in the 3rd, Khalil Greene broke the game open with a solo homerun, setting the stage for Chad Bradford to come in and save his 4th game of the season.

A game for the history books, well, almost. Kurt Ainsworth was going up against the new 6 point pitcher Kip Wells. Both pitchers brought their A game. In 3 full innings, 1 hit was given up, which was a single by Willy Mo Pena. Ainsworth came in the top of the 4th inning walking one, and retiring the next 3. He still has a no hitter. Up to the plate walks Juan Encarnacion. Solo shot off of Kip Wells, making it 1-0. Kiko Calero came into the game to finish the 5th, which upset the fans. He gave up 2 hits in his first two batters, then got an out, K, and an out to win.
I actually didnt know he had a no no, and put in Calero. I tried replaying the last inning, but he couldn't get all 3 out.

Commissioner Taylor was in Quebec at the grounds of the new Bleus stadium to help unveil the new identity for the team. "A classy old look, I like it." The Bleus will join the CBL ring of teams with a navy old English script as a primary. "Montreal is simple, just like this identity" says first baseman Brad Hawpe, who was there to show off the set with his new team. Also on hand, Nick Punto and Rick Ankiel. "They'll compete for sure", says Taylor, who has approved plans of 2 divisions broken up East-West.

Trading Spaces
The first trade in CBL History has just taken place. Struggling second baseman for Virginia, Aaron Herr, is sent to Portland in return for 2B Michael Holliman. Holliman has been on the Trappers reserves all season. "Aaron was a good guy, and I wish him luck in Portland" says third baseman Hank Blalock. Herr will be on the reserves, while Holliman will now be in the starting line up for Virginia.

Game 19
Orlando Uniforms - Virginia Uniforms
Notes
A huge game to mark the halfway mark of the CBL season. Both teams started out strong. 2 2 run homers by Hillenbrand, and Mientkiewicz. Then the duel started. From innings 2-5, Looper gave up 2 hits, and Chacon gave up 5. Looper pitched better... in regulation. In the top of the 3rd, the bottom of the M's order came out to play. All 2 point players, LaForest tripled, Abernathy walked, Francia tripled, and Robels singled. 3 runs scored, enough for Ryan to come in and save the game, giving the M's a share of the league lead.

Game 18
Portland Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms
Notes
A pitching duel in full effect in Omaha. The Clones' sole stud pitcher Prior was up against another 6 point pitcher in Doug Waetcher. Both pitchers matched eachother in the first 2. Then in the 3rd, Dye doubled in Horwitz. In the 4th, Willy Mo Pena in his quiet all-star season, hit a solo shot. Then in the 5th, Dye came up big again tripiling in Berroa. That was 3-0 for the Trappers. Waechter brought his A game and threw 3 hit ball in 4 innings of work, then Gagne came in for the save.

The Bums needed a win in the series looking to make the series tied at 2 with a win in Game 19. In the second, both Hall and Young hit home runs. The M's stormed back with back to back jacks by Ben Grieve, and Shae Hillenbrand. But in the bottom of the 3rd, Virginia scored a total of 5 runs. 2 doubles, 4 singles, and 2 walks set up a 5 run inning, which Scott Elarton was ousted out with bases loaded. Tim Spooneybarger did make it interesting by giving up a 2 run homer to Grieve, them another run by a Francia Double. but Oscar Robels was ousted for the Bums' win.

Game 17
Portland Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms
Notes
An unlikely pitching duel to start. Everyone expected Willis to go out firing, but so did Brandon Backe. 3 innings of scoreless ball was broken up by a Horwitz single, after Encarnacion tripled. Monroe and Ellison both hit 2 run home runs off of Willis in the 4th. The Clones had this all but wrapped up, when they brought in Taschner. He imploded and gave up 3 runs to tie it up. Pena doubled in Dye, and Horwitz doubled in Burroughs, and Pena. Willis had to shut them down and take it to extras, but that didn't happen. Ensberg singled, then Monroe hit his second home run of the game for the win.

Virginia had a chance to make the race for the cup really interesting, but they blew a golden opportunity, big time. Top of the second, Nieve implodes. Crede and Abernathy get on, then Juan Francia Homers to center. 3-0 when Roneberg walks, and Freeman singles. That sets up Shannon Stewart for a 3 run jack of his own. Next inning, Hillenbrand, and LaForest single, then the best batter in the game right now, Brent Abernathy hits a 3 run homer off of Windsor to make it 9-0. The Bums did score 1 in the 4th, but was combated by a solo shot by Abernathy. THen off of BJ Ryan, the Bums had a mini rally, scoring 4, but Mientkiewicz popped out to second for the 8th win for the M's

Portland Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms
Notes
Portland could be 500 for the first time this season, which is pretty bad being 12 games in, and being the defending champs. Kaz Tadano tried to keep his scoreless inning streak alive, also. Juan Encarnacion hit a 2 run home run in the first with Dye on board. Then the impressive 5 point pitcher got out of the inning in 4 batters in the first. Giles tripled in Sexson, then in the bottom of the inning, Valetin doubles in Ensberg. 3-1 Portland going into the 3rd, when Tadano had his first bad inning. The Cyclones bated around scoring 4 runs. That was it for the hurler, when Kiko Calero came in to hold. scoreless inning for Perez, and Calero in the 4th. Jorge Julio came in for a save, which was reasonable, but uh oh. Brown walked, Berroa singled, then Juan Encarnacion hit another home run for the game winning run.

Orlando continued to be surprising. In the first, against the 2nd place team in the league, Shannon Stewart parked one off of Milton. Surprising Wells had the Bums in a stranglehold. 2 hits given up by wells in 4 innings. In the 3rd though, Stewart doubled, and Grieve homered. Those two players scored all the runs in the game. Brazelton and Spooneybarger pitched the 5th, and the M's pull a half game closer to Austin.

Game 15
Portland Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms
Notes
Portland has the challenge of coming back and getting out of the lower half of the league. Luckily, they have to travel to the worst team in the league's place in Omaha. Omaha's pitching has been a mess, with the "most potent" offense not doing much. Kason Gabbard had an ERA in the 30s. He gave up some 14 runs in 2 innings. He started off the game with a solo shot to Burroughs. Then got out of the inning. Great start. Next inning, 2 solo shots to Giles and Berroa. Next inning, solo shot to Pena. No runs in the 4th, and then a solo shot to Encarnacion. 5 runs against with 5 solo shots. Kurt Ainsworth went out, and threw a 2 hit masterpiece. If Portland can get this lucky with pitching, they will be just fine.

A nice pitching match up for the final game of this great series. Orlando earned a 2-2 split of the series with this win. Ponson gave up a cycle to Freeman, Grieve, and Hillenbrand then LaForest doubled home Hillenbrand making it 3-0. Both pitchers went at it, and Shawn Chacon didn't budge at all not giving up a run. Boof Bonser came in for the 5th, and a Junior Spivey triple made it 3-1, but then Munson and Rolls got out, thus ending the game.

Notes
Opposite of the last game these teams played. Mark Prior was going out to try and get the Cyclones' first series win against Braden Looper and the Bums. A defiant pitchers duel. This is the first time both teams had 0 runs going into extras. Looper loaded the bases in the second, then got Fahey out. both pitchers went at it. Looper had 6 Ks, but Prior got people out the ol' fashion way, even though his three strikeouts were against Hank Blalock. It came down to the 6th inning. Walk, then 3 triples. That is how the Cyclones scored 3 runs. Then Prior came in and shut down the Bums for the win.

A terrible game if you like pitching. The second highest scoring game in league history, only behind game 3 of the Taylor Cup. Casey hit a 2 run home run in the first to make the score 3-0. I actually was like oh here we go... Then, Josh Papelbon couldn't get anyone out. 7 runs were scored in the bottom of the first, 11 batters came to bat. Next inning, a triple and 2 doubles led to a 7-5 game. Then after that, Elarton loaded the bases, was pulled for BJ Ryan, who gave up a double and triple. Both runs were on for Elarton, resulting in a 9-7 lead for Austin. Brazelton came in for the 5th, walk, double, and triple scored 2 more.

Absolutely sloppy game. SOMEHOW mark Mulder gave up 6 runs again, and now he is 2-1. In the second, Valetin doubled in Garret Atkins, then Brian Buscher homered to make it 4-0. Then in the 4th, Valetin hit a 2 run homer to make it 6-0. Mulder came out after he got Fahey out to end the 4th. Going into the bottom of the 4th, the Bums had one hit, a first inning single by Byrnes. Mientkiewicz doubled, hall singled, Bigbie walked to load the bases. Dmitri Young doubled driving in two, then a walk, single, single had bases loaded for Doug Mientkiewicz. Do the math, 4 runs before he came up. Grand slam Doug Mientkiewicz. Anderson came in for the save, and gave up a walk and a triple. But 3 strait outs ended that, and got the Bums an ugly win.

Virginia scored 2 in the bottom of the first. Then Fernando Nieve imploded in the 3rd, giving up 5 runs, including a grand slam to Craig Monroe. 10 batters came up in that inning. Then in the bottom of the inning, Toby Hall homered to make it 5-4 Omaha. Then in the bottom of the 4th, Adam Everett tripled, then was singled in by Byrnes to tie it up. Normally strong Tim Spooneybarger gave up a Mathews Jr home run, the only hit in his 2 innings of work. Jorge Julio shut down the Bums earning the save.

Notes
If Orlando won, then for the first time, 3 teams would have a share of first. But that didn't happen. EARLY, the Roughnecks scored 4 runs. First 4 batters, 4 runs. A 3 run homer by Sean Casey set the game off. Then both pitchers dueled. Kip wells gave up 3 hits the rest of the game, while Zambrano gave up 2. The second was a solo home run by Brent Abernathy, who has been on a tear, and second in batting average.

Orlando Releases New Alternate
The Majestics released a new top for the rest of season 2. A fresh young team looking for a fresh look. A new hat was also adopted.
They will be worn in their next game when Austin comes to Orlando to face the M's.
Game 11
Virginia Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
Could Virginia beat around Austin and sweep them for the second time? Yes. Virginia is 6-0 against the Roughnecks. Sidney Ponson went out hoping to shut down the potent Virginia offense, which he did to start. But so did Eric Milton. 0s put up for the first 3 innings. In the 4th, Dimitri Young tripled in Toby Hall, making it 1-0. Milton shut them down int he bottom of the inning, then Ponson imploded and gave up 5 runs, 3 being on a Bigbie Homer. Austin did score one in the 5th, but that wasnt enough. Virginia is now first.

Power Rankings 2
1. Virginia Beach Bums
Huge series against Austin, and they've taken the first two. Pitching is what has been doing great things, keeping the games close. Some batters have become hot, like Crosby, and Blalock. if this team can take the last game, then they will be tied at the top.
2. Austin Roughnecks
The former undefeated team has been slowed recently. The 5 point pitchers kept them competitive against Virginia's6 point pitchers. Sean Casey and Khalil Greene have been hot, and remained hot. What they need is the pitching to remain solid, and everyone to start hitting better.
3. Portland Trappers
The team won the series over Orlando, with the loss coming late in the last game. Dontrelle Willis and Kaz Tadano both got their second win, which is big. If this team can match up their pitching and hitting with being hot, then expect the team to come back and make it interesting with the Bums and Necks
4. Orlando Majestics
Luckiest team is lucky. They have 5 2 point players in the line up, with none of them actually doing bad. All have made their own impression and have been benefiting. Brent Abernathy leads the league in batting average. Their problem right now is pitching, I'd say. If they can keep teams close, they could win a few.
5. Omaha Cyclones
No games in the last 4 gamedays. Maybe this is the break the team needed, because they weren't very good to start. They have two glimmers of hope, in Vidro and Atkins. But pitching has stunk. Kason Gabbard has about 10 years left in the career, so him having 14 ER in 2 innings and change.

ERA
ERA will now be calculated with Earned runs in 5 innings, as compared to 9. That will make the stats resemble actual ERA more. Starting with game 10, the ERA will now be lower.
All of Season 1's stats were changed also. That makes Mark Mulder's ERA 2.75 last season.

Game 10
Virginia Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
Virginia had a great chance to win today, with Looper on the mound up against Josh Pappelbon. It was closer than they would've liked it perhaps. The Bums had bases loaded in the first, but couldn't get the run in. Things started in the second when Crosby homered in his second strait at bat carrying over from game 9. That inning, Blalock doubled in Herr, then Mientkiewicz singled in Everett. In the bottom of 2, two doubles from the 4 and 5 hitter made it 3-1. Crosby came up and hit ANOTHER home run. He now is tied for home runs this season. 5 strait batters reached int he bottom of 3 but only 2 scored as Rolls got out with bases juiced. Next inning, Blaclock tripled, doubled in by hall, who was tipled in by Bigbie. 6-3 now. They wouldn't go away, Matt LeCroy hit it off the fence, took an awkward bounce, and slid in safe for a triple. Khalil Greene hit a single, making it 6-4. Matt Anderson came in for the save, but first gave up a home run to Sean Casey. Wild game witha lot of offense. Virginia is now just 1 game back of first.

Portland had the upper hand in this matchup, going for the 3 game sweep. Their pitcher had the better percentages with 6 points, on Shawn Chacon, who was a 5. Chacon got out of a situation in the first getting Sexson out with 2 runners in scoring position. In the bottom of 4, Brent Abernathy broke up a perfect game with a home run off of Waechter. Top of 4, Chacon let 2 men single, then walked 3 strait batters. The M's called on BJ Ryan who got out of the inning. Oh well this is over. BUT WAIT! The Majestics rallied. Grieve doubled, Hillenbrand walked. Then, with 3 outs, Brent Abernathy gets a single. Bases loaded, and new starting SS Juan Francia comes up big and triples. All the runs score, and the M's win 4-3

Game 9
Virginia Uniforms - Austin Uniforms
Notes
Big series here too. Virginia had a chance to gain ground on Austin, and help the rest of the league by handing them their first loss. Virginia jumped early on a Byrnes homer, and Toby Hall doubling in Hank Blalock. Mulder was rolling, but Bradley matched him after he settled. Mulder walked Spivey, then Damian Rolls homered to tie it up at 2. Bradley was pulled for a 6 point pitcher. 0s put up in the 5th for both Mulder and Bradford. Then in the 6th, Bubba Crosby hit a game winning homer. Mulder came in and shut down the Necks and give them their first loss.

A pretty big match up again between these two teams on the bubble. If Orlando got a win, they had a cushion on some teams, but they would be 500 with a loss. Well, it got started early when Angel Berroa hit a home run to lead off. Scott Elarton settled down, and got out of the next inning with 1 hit. In the top of the third, same situation, Berroa hits a lead off homer off of Elarton. Dontrelle Willis showed why he is one of the best there is. Coming up big with 1 hit in 3 innings. Both pitchers pitched 5 innings, and had dominant nights. But Berroa single handedly won the game with his bat.

A pretty big series coming up for both teams. Portland could catch up and get some wins, as Orlando tries to bank some wins and making life difficult for Portland. Montréal accueille le CBL
Commissioner Michael Taylor announced today plans of expanding the Continental Baseball League to the city of Montreal.
"I wanted the league to be more Continental for season 3. So far, with 5 US teams I thought it was time to expand. It brings fans of a different country, and expands the league north east." Montreal of course lost their team in 2005 to Washington as the Expos skipped town. "The problem there was the lack of a stadium, plans are in place of building a new stadium." Montreal is the second biggest city in Canada, and would be the largest market in the CBL. A new identity package, and plans for roster spreading will be soon announced.
Taylor also announced two teams will be playing in Mexico City to start season 3 off.

Game 7
Virginia Uniforms - Portland Uniforms
Notes
A big game to really set the tone for the season of both teams. A 5 starter went out for Virginia, and Portland and surprisingly wasn't high scoring at first. In the bottom of 1, Jermaine Dye hit a solo shot off of Nieve. Then he settled down. Top of 3, the top of the order kept on hitting and scored 2, and taking the lead for the Bums. Next inning, Adam Everett hits grand slam off of Ainsworth, leading to him being taken out. In the 5th, Jason Windsor made his first appearance in the CBL. He gives up a homer to Jeremy Brown, loads the bases, then fans Sexson to end the game.

Somehow, the Austin Roughnecks remained undefeated up to this point in the season. A perfect record of 5-0, and going for a sweep against the Cyclones. Greene continued his hot streak by hitting a first inning homer. Bottom 3, Victor Zambrano gave up a double, then 6 singles, and got 3 straight outs leaving the bases juiced. Then ironically, the Roughnecks did the same next inning. Lecroy hit a homer, then 6 strait batters reached base, including 4 straight singles to make it 5-3. No runs were scored after that, and the 'Necks are 6-0

Virginia Uniforms - Portland Uniforms
Notes
Both teams needed wins now, and Portland got tons of help early. In the first, Eric Milton allowed the first 6 to get on base, including a grand slam by Juan Encarnacion. Top of 2, Bubba Crosby drove in Toby Hall, giving some hope, but it was short lived. Next inning, Willy Mo Pena hit a 3 run home run off of Milton. Doug Waechter threw a 2 hit complete game, a much needed confidence boost by Portland's number two starter.

Sidney Ponson and the Roughnecks were rolling along, and the 6 point pitcher wasn't going to let the Cyclones knock them down. 5 runs in the first inning off Kason Gabbard set the tone. The Roughnecks scored another 2 in the 2nd to get him out of the game. Gabbard has given up 14 runs in 2 1/3 innings this year. Sean Casey had a break out game with a triple and homer to maybe end his slump of batting 1-11.

Power Rankings 1
After every 5th game, I will do power rankings.
1. Austin Roughnecks
Obviously Ausitn would be the top team. They've been getting things done, lead by their awesome pitching. After game 4, they gave up a total of 4 runs, making them the best pitching staff in the league. What is weird is that the offense isn't really astounding. People like Khalil Greene, and Junior Spivey are having great years, when team MVP in season 1, Sean Casey, is 1 for 11 and batting .090.
2. Orlando Majestics
This team is very lucky. The season was started with 4, 3 point starters, and 3 6 point pitchers. Out of the 4 batters mentioned above, only 2 are batting above .333. But what's carried this team was the supporting cast of young 2 point batters. Choo Freeman, Brent Abernathy, Pete LaForest, and as a DH Juan Francia all have come up big. Chuck James is surprisingly the only Orlando starter without a win.
3. Virginia Beach Bums
Its really too early to tell where the team is heading. 2 games in, both were on and off. One was a shut out loss, where the number one stater got shelled for 7 runs, then won game 2 4-1 over Portland. The big hitters aren't hitting though. Doug Mientkiewicz and Hank Blalock have a total of 1 hit between them.
4. Portland Trappers
Things are starting to turn, maybe. After getting embarrassed by the Roughnecks, They busted loose against Virginia with a 7-0 win. But last game agaisnt Virginia they lost 4-1. Kaz Tadano threw a complete game shut out against Virginia, the lone bright spot in the starting rotation. I have a feeling Willis and Waechter will turn it around. Hitting is starting to pick up though, so they could make a run for something.
5. Omaha Cyclones
The most dangerous offense hasn't done crap since the first game. Well, it's mostly pitching. After losing 3 of 4 in Orlando, they lost 3-1 in the first home game in franchise history. The offense hasn't strung hits together, while some players are having pretty good years. If Garrett Atkins and Jose Vidro can stay hot, and the pitching can settle down they could salvage the season.

Game 5
Virginia Uniforms - Portland Uniforms
Notes
After the beat down in game one, Virginia needed a win soon to maybe get a jump on trying to catch the Roughnecks early. A pitching duel was next though. Braden Looper improved from a 5 to a 6 last season, paired up with Dontrelle Willis on the mound for the Trappers. Both pitchers rolled, early. Burroughs hit a homer in the first, then Byrnes hit a 2 run homer in the third. Going into the 5th, both pitchers were in trying to maybe get a win. Virginia's 7-8-9 hitters were up, Bubba Crosby homered, then Greenberg and Herr both doubled, ousting Willis with a soon to be loss as Looper finished his complete game.

Notes
Mark Prior was the Cyclone's best chance to end the losing streak, up against Josh Pappelbon on the mound in his first start. Matt LeCroy doubled in a run in the top of the 2nd to take the lead early. Josh Pappelbon became another 5 point pitcher that has impressed this year. He gave up a home run to Jose Vidro in the 3rd, but that was the only run he gave up. 1-1 going into the 5th, Elijah Dukes singled, then Khalil Greene homered. Esteban Yan came in and earned the save for Austin as they remain undefeated.
