Game 25

Orlando Uniforms - Austin Uniforms

Notes
A duel in Austin led to the longest game in CBL history. Neither team wanted to lose, and neither starting pitcher was going to let that happen. Chuck James struggled early, the first 5 batters got on, but retired the next 3 strait with the bases loaded. Joe Crede hit a solo shot in the 2nd, then in the 3rd to tie, Oscar Robels hit a solo shot. That tie didn't last long. Matt LeCroy singled in Spivey to make it 3-2. Pete LaForest led off the next inning, and hit the 3rd solo home run of the game. For the next 3 innings, no run were given up, and thats 4 pitchers doing that. Then, with Brazelton on the mound, Sean Casey tripled, then Junior Spivey comes up big with a walk off home run to win.

Virginia Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms

Notes
If Virginia's offense remained hot, they could make a run for the cup. Well, they did. In the first, two doubles combined for 3 rbis and a 3-0 lead. But Milton struggled. A solo home run to Valentin in the fist, then 4 base hits, including a triple by Valentin, made it 5-3 Cyclones. But that did not last long. Hank Blalock hit his second homer in 2 games with Mientkiewicz on base. Bigbie, Crosby, and Holliman all got hits for a total of 4 runs int he 3rd. The game was on lock as no runs were scored after, and the Bums are a team that can make some people turn heads.

Game 24

Orlando Uniforms - Austin Uniforms

Notes
A battle for first place headlined this set of games. Offense was hardly needed in this game, due to the top pitchers this season were going mano-y-mano. Zambrano gave up a solo shot to Juan Francia in the second, then a solo shot to Shannon Stewart the following inning. On the flip side, Kip Wells had a two hitter through 3. Then in the 5th, Ben Grieve singled in Choo Freeman for a 3-0 lead, which Wells kept for the win.

Virginia Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms

Notes
Maybe Omaha could be a spoiler to the teams wanting to make the playoffs. After taking 2 from Austin, Virginia was next. They got down early. 4 runs were scored in the first, Everett homered, then bases were loaded by singles, then 2 walks and a double all added on. Then next inning, Hall tripled, and Blalock hit his first homer of the year to make it 6-0. Reitsma came in, and in the 4th, Byrnes hit a 2 run homer off of him making it 8-0. Omaha did spare some run, Crosby hit a bases loaded single off of Nieve, and Vidro homered off of Anderson in the 5th. Anderson retired the side for an 8-2 win.

Game 23

Omaha Uniforms - Austin Uniforms

Notes
Austin was wanting a series win against the last place Cyclones. Sidney Ponson was up against one of the worst pitchers this season. Kason Gabbard had his best game by far. In the first, Mathews walked, and Vidro homered to start the game. Then in the second the last 3 batters in the order got on, then Vidro hit a grand slam. It was all Clones as Gabbard held them to a shut out, and gave the ball over to Julio for the save.

Orlando Uniforms - Portland Uniforms

Notes
A pivotal game in the CBL, if Portland wins, they would be second, and the M's would have to play their way in. Doug Waechter pitched good, but Chacon was better. In the first, Freeman tripled, then MVP candidate Brent Abernathy doubled him in. Waechter retired the next 11 batters, but Chacon shut down the Trappers. In the 4th, he walked the bases loaded, then Simon singled in Sexson, then got the next two batters out to end the inning. The tie didn't last long. Joe Crede hit a solo homer, then Francia hit a 2 run homer after LaForest walked. Bonser saved the last inning in 4 batters for the 11th win for the M's

M's Release Elarton

Aging Scott Elarton was released from the Orlando roster following his 1/3rd of an inning performance against the Trappers. The first pitcher in M's history has not lived up to expectations. A 6 point pitcher for season 1, lost a point due to poor performance, and now is 1-4 with an ERA of 12.5.

M's have signed Jason Jennings, who was a free agent, and now is on the roster for the rest of the season. A 5 point pitcher is crucial for the stretch run for the Taylor Cup.

Game 22

Omaha Uniforms - Austin Uniforms

Notes
A game that was decided quickly, slows down the Roughnecks. In the first, Josh Pappelbon gave up 3 runs. He walked Mathews, Vidro and Monroe doubled, then Jeremy Hermida tripled in Monroe. But from that point on, both pitchers brought their Man-arms. 0 runs for 4 complete innings. In the bottom of the 5th, Prior gave up a homer to Damian Rolls. He could've lost it there, but got the next 3 people out, and a W.

Notes
Scott Elarton pretty much had one chance of redemption, just not implode so early. Well, that didn't happen Portland batted around on him, and scored 7 runs. That caused BJ Ryan to come into the game, who got the next two batters out. Willis gave up 2 solo shots to Hillenbrand and Crede int he second, then int he 3rd, Abernathy made it 7-3 with a homer of his own. The next 2 batters walked, then Crede tripled them in, making the league RBI leader have 19 on the year. 7-5 going into the bottom of the 4th, Portland got an insurance run by 2 singles, a walk, and an rbi single by Simon. Eric Gagne continued his shut out season with the save.

Game 21

Omaha Uniforms - Austin Uniforms

Notes
The Trappers got a great draw into who they play to start the second half of the season. To start the bottom of the fist, Dukes hit a solo home run. The, next inning, the team went off. The first 6 batters got on, and Rocco Baldelli hit a grand slam to wrap it up, and knock out Backe. When Julio came in, he got two batters out, then Munson hit a homerun for himself. Down 8-0, the Clones scored 4 runs in the 4th, lead by Hermida's 2 run home run. Then, bottom of 4, Casey and Spivey doubled, to be tripled in by Preston Wilson, his second of the day. Notes
Chuck James was going up against Kaz Tadano. James has been struggling all year, while Tadano gave up his only runs his last start. Things started off bad for the Trappers. Kaz walked 3 batters, then gave up a two out Home Run to Joe Crede. That would come to be enough. James hurled, and gave up just 2 solo home runs to Burroughs and Giles, as the M's held off the Trappers 4-2

Notes
Coming off their break, the Roughnecks were now tied with the M's for first. Luckily, the pitching match up was in their favor. A 3-0 Zambrano was up against a 0-3 Gabbard. In the first, Casey doubled in Baldelli, then Junior Spivey tee'd off for a 2 run shot. Next inning, the 'Clones answered back when Ensberg homered with Atkins on making it 3-2. Then in the 3rd, Khalil Greene broke the game open with a solo homerun, setting the stage for Chad Bradford to come in and save his 4th game of the season.

Notes
A game for the history books, well, almost. Kurt Ainsworth was going up against the new 6 point pitcher Kip Wells. Both pitchers brought their A game. In 3 full innings, 1 hit was given up, which was a single by Willy Mo Pena. Ainsworth came in the top of the 4th inning walking one, and retiring the next 3. He still has a no hitter. Up to the plate walks Juan Encarnacion. Solo shot off of Kip Wells, making it 1-0. Kiko Calero came into the game to finish the 5th, which upset the fans. He gave up 2 hits in his first two batters, then got an out, K, and an out to win.

I actually didnt know he had a no no, and put in Calero. I tried replaying the last inning, but he couldn't get all 3 out.

Commissioner Taylor was in Quebec at the grounds of the new Bleus stadium to help unveil the new identity for the team. "A classy old look, I like it." The Bleus will join the CBL ring of teams with a navy old English script as a primary. Lead off hitter Brandon Fahey has been dropped off of the roster. Batting an abysmal .76, the Cyclones have released him. They picked up free agent Bobby Crosby who will join the team when they travel to Austin next game.

Trading Spaces

The first trade in CBL History has just taken place. Struggling second baseman for Virginia, Aaron Herr, is sent to Portland in return for 2B Michael Holliman. Holliman has been on the Trappers reserves all season. "Aaron was a good guy, and I wish him luck in Portland" says third baseman Hank Blalock. Herr will be on the reserves, while Holliman will now be in the starting line up for Virginia.

Game 19

Orlando Uniforms - Virginia Uniforms

Notes
A huge game to mark the halfway mark of the CBL season. Both teams started out strong. 2 2 run homers by Hillenbrand, and Mientkiewicz. Then the duel started. From innings 2-5, Looper gave up 2 hits, and Chacon gave up 5. Looper pitched better... in regulation. In the top of the 3rd, the bottom of the M's order came out to play. All 2 point players, LaForest tripled, Abernathy walked, Francia tripled, and Robels singled. 3 runs scored, enough for Ryan to come in and save the game, giving the M's a share of the league lead.

Game 18

Portland Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms

Notes
A pitching duel in full effect in Omaha. The Clones' sole stud pitcher Prior was up against another 6 point pitcher in Doug Waetcher. Both pitchers matched eachother in the first 2. Then in the 3rd, Dye doubled in Horwitz. In the 4th, Willy Mo Pena in his quiet all-star season, hit a solo shot. Then in the 5th, Dye came up big again tripiling in Berroa. That was 3-0 for the Trappers. Waechter brought his A game and threw 3 hit ball in 4 innings of work, then Gagne came in for the save.

Orlando Uniforms - Virginia Uniforms

Notes
The Bums needed a win in the series looking to make the series tied at 2 with a win in Game 19. In the second, both Hall and Young hit home runs. The M's stormed back with back to back jacks by Ben Grieve, and Shae Hillenbrand. But in the bottom of the 3rd, Virginia scored a total of 5 runs. 2 doubles, 4 singles, and 2 walks set up a 5 run inning, which Scott Elarton was ousted out with bases loaded. Tim Spooneybarger did make it interesting by giving up a 2 run homer to Grieve, them another run by a Francia Double. but Oscar Robels was ousted for the Bums' win.

Game 17

Portland Uniforms - Omaha Uniforms

Notes
An unlikely pitching duel to start. Everyone expected Willis to go out firing, but so did Brandon Backe. 3 innings of scoreless ball was broken up by a Horwitz single, after Encarnacion tripled. Monroe and Ellison both hit 2 run home runs off of Willis in the 4th. The Clones had this all but wrapped up, when they brought in Taschner. He imploded and gave up 3 runs to tie it up. Pena doubled in Dye, and Horwitz doubled in Burroughs, and Pena. Willis had to shut them down and take it to extras, but that didn't happen. Ensberg singled, then Monroe hit his second home run of the game for the win.

Orlando Uniforms - Virginia Uniforms

Notes
Virginia had a chance to make the race for the cup really interesting, but they blew a golden opportunity, big time. Top of the second, Nieve implodes. Crede and Abernathy get on, then Juan Francia Homers to center. 3-0 when Roneberg walks, and Freeman singles. That sets up Shannon Stewart for a 3 run jack of his own. Next inning, Hillenbrand, and LaForest single, then the best batter in the game right now, Brent Abernathy hits a 3 run homer off of Windsor to make it 9-0. The Bums did score 1 in the 4th, but was combated by a solo shot by Abernathy. THen off of BJ Ryan, the Bums had a mini rally, scoring 4, but Mientkiewicz popped out to second for the 8th win for the M's
