Notes
After the beat down in game one, Virginia needed a win soon to maybe get a jump on trying to catch the Roughnecks early. A pitching duel was next though. Braden Looper improved from a 5 to a 6 last season, paired up with Dontrelle Willis on the mound for the Trappers. Both pitchers rolled, early. Burroughs hit a homer in the first, then Byrnes hit a 2 run homer in the third. Going into the 5th, both pitchers were in trying to maybe get a win. Virginia's 7-8-9 hitters were up, Bubba Crosby homered, then Greenberg and Herr both doubled, ousting Willis with a soon to be loss as Looper finished his complete game.

Mark Prior was the Cyclone's best chance to end the losing streak, up against Josh Pappelbon on the mound in his first start. Matt LeCroy doubled in a run in the top of the 2nd to take the lead early. Josh Pappelbon became another 5 point pitcher that has impressed this year. He gave up a home run to Jose Vidro in the 3rd, but that was the only run he gave up. 1-1 going into the 5th, Elijah Dukes singled, then Khalil Greene homered. Esteban Yan came in and earned the save for Austin as they remain undefeated.

Notes
The two playoffs teams from last season had a combined 0 wins going in. Virginia, hadn't played. But Portland got swept at home against Austin. Mark Mulder came in hungry, but got blown out of the game. Jeremy Brown hit a grand slam in the second, which took the wind out of Virginia's sails. Then hit after hit the next inning making it 7-0 Portland. The Trappers held on for the win.

These two have been even all series, even gaining status as a new rivalry, after one of the best series so far. This would be the only game not settled by 2 or less runs. Omaha jumped on Kip Wells early, getting 2 doubles in the first. Then, he got good. Kip wells retired the next 10 batters, as a 5 pitcher, it's astonishing. Joe Crede hit a solo shot in the 2nd to tie up the game. In the bottom of the 3rd, the flood gates were released. Freeman hit a double, scored after 2 singles, and with 2 runners on, Joe Crede hit another homer to make it 5-1. Nothing happened after that, being the last hit of the game.

Notes
Austin was looking to become the third team to sweep another, against the defending champs no less. Portland's game started bad right away. Double, single, homer to start the top of the first. Angel Berroa, the first batter in the bottom of the first hit a homer, and it looked like it would be a bad pitching match up. Then Bobby Bradley settled in and started rolling. After that homer, in 4 innings he gave up 4 more hits, all singles. Khalil Greene hit a homer in the top of the second to oust Ainsworth, who took the loss.

Wild game. This game was the second highest scoring game in CBL history. Only game 3 in the Taylor Cup was higher. Orlando jumped on Omaha early. And I mean jumped. 7 runs were scored in the second, which made it 8-0. Joe Crede had a grand slam that inning, too. Then, in the 3rd, Garret Atkins hit a 3 run homer to start, with Craig Monroe hitting one to make it 8-4. Next inning, Omaha was at it again. 6 strait batters got on, scoring 3 runs, and loaded the bases. Dewon Brazelton settled down after letting 3 guys on board, to get the last 2 outs. it was now 8-7. Next inning, Jose Vidro homered off of Boof Bonser to tie it up. Then in the bottom of the inning, a walk, single, and a game winning double by Brent Abernathy.

This game, on paper, was one sided. Omaha had 7 3 point players in their line up, while Orlando had just 4. But the starters really stunk it up. after just 2, Orlando was up 8-4. Thanks to hitting 3 home runs off of Kason Gabbard, who gave up 7. Scott Elarton also struggled, and was pulled after giving up a homer to make it 8-6. BJ Ryan, and Boof Bonser came in to shut it down for Orlando and get their first win on the season.

With the return of CBL, Portland unveils their new banner, Then Austin shows up being a party pooper. Eric Munson got a triple in the second, who scored on a Preston Wilson double. Matt Lecroy hit him in on his double. Juan Encarnacion went 2-2 with a double, that scored Jermaine Dye. It was anyones game, but new pick up Junior Spivey hits a homerun into deep PGE Park. Omaha came in trying to prove that they're not just a normal expansion team. They have a potent offence, and maybe one of the best starting pitcher in the league. But Chuck James was one of the best last season, and they'd have to go through him. It was tied going into the 5th, at 2-2. Then James let the flood gates open. He gave up 2 walks, and a single, double, and a triple. That was 4 runs, and enough to have a comfortable lead going into the bottom frame. First batter, Shannon Stewart hits it onto the hill at Champions Stadium in Orlando. Omaha put in their number one reliever in, Jorge Julio, whi gave up a run of his own, but settled down and ended it.

Season 2 Schedules

Season 2 Predictions

Here are my predictions for Season 2. It's not like Im gonna change the games any, just what i'm thinking based off recent moves.


1. Portland Trappers-Overall 65 Points
Why wouldn't this team be the one to beat? Every player returned from season one. Doug Waechter earned a 6th point for pitching, making Portland's rotation 6, 6, 5, 5. With the roster expanding to 17, they got two pretty good pitchers. Kaz Tanado with his eepheus pitch, and Kiko Calero's 6 point arm in the bullpen already with Eric Gagne. The line up will be the same as their championship line up.

2. Austin Roughnecks- Overall 64 Points
This is a stab at it. The last place team had the pieces, just wasn't lucky. 5 batters batted under .231, including 3 pointer Preston Wilson. He was demoted to a 2 this offseason. But why pick them second? Sidney Ponson had glimmers of a nice season. They picked up Dauner Sanchez, a 6 point RP, and Josh Pappelbon in the rotation. Junior Spivey was added to the roster, while Andy Cannizaro was dropped to the reserves. It's this team's shot at a Taylor Cup. Their RPs, and ace Sidney Ponson are aging, but trades can now be made. Screw the future! Go big now! Plus, their identity is now awesome.

3. Virginia Beach Bums- Overall 64 Points
Last year's regular season champs come into this season looking for a championship. Doug Mientkiewicz went nuts to start Season 1. With a supporting cast of Adam Everett, Hank Blalock, and Toby Hall they're capable. Dmitri Young lost a point as a DH, but Adam Everett gained a point batting a ridiculous .393 as a 2 point player. Braden Looper was promoted to a 6 point pitcher also. Thing is, during the roster expansion, they picked up two 5 point players, the only team to not get a 6 point pitcher. But hopefully they get a Braden Looper performance out of Fernando Nieve, and Jason Windsor.

4. Omaha Cyclones- Overall 64 Points
The expansion team won't be an easy game. Made up of free agents, they get huge names like Jeremy Hermida, Mark Prior, Morgan Ensberg, and Jose Vidro. The rotation is 6, 5, 5, 5 so there could be a problem. They're the only team without 3 6 point pitchers. But their line up has 6 players with 3 points, just like every team(except Orlando). So if they can get a good year out of one of their 5 players in the rotation, they'll compete.

5. Orlando M's- Overall 62 Points
Orlando is in the most trouble. Before I installed the age retirement rule, Orlando already drafted Nomar, and Delgado. They were the only 2 retirements this past season. Shea Hillenbrand replaced Delgado, so theres no loss there, but Oscar Robels was signed for Nomar's replacement. He'll be in here one year until 3rd overall draft pick Jamie Simms gets called up. Scott Elarton was demoted to a 5 pitcher as Chuck James begins the season as the #1 starter. Hopefully Boof Bonser, and BJ Ryan can come out of the pen and get things done.

Trappers Stadium Plans

I had an idea in my head.

So here is the planned stadium for the Portland Trappers in time for season 3. It takes some inspiration from the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Where to start? All the grey is a walkway. It remains the same height all around. Each path going into the green section are stairs to the rows of seats. Since it's level, that means that because the seats go down, there will be a tall wall. Well that wall is in right field, right under the Party Deck. You enter the stadium in the plaza where the grey trappers logos are. Under the tan deck above the green seats is an overhang, under is the pressboxes, and VIP lounges. In deep center is a hill area, with a garden. Since Portland is the Rose City, roses will be grown. A hedge shaped like the cap logo is also out there, think PNC Park. Originally, the stadium was not suppose to be skewed, but it added a short porch in left field. For hitters like Sean Burroughs, and Willy Mo Pena, this should be a very nice home run park.

Portland Trapper Stadium Troubles.

So Portland is renovating PGE Park for the Timbers, forcing the Portland Beavers out. A Baseball stadium was planned, to be built by 2011. Thing is, that didnt work out. Luckily the Trappers got their stuff together, and will get a new stadium by season 3.

I will design a stadium for your pleasure, then they will fake play in it. Deal? Portland will push for the Season 3 all-star game.

All-Star Game

Notes
The first all-star game was surprisingly quiet. I guess that's what you get when you have the 10 best pitchers going an inning each. Dontrelle Willis couldn't find the strike zone, and gave up 4 runs, including 4 walks. Pete LaForest earned the first hit by Lommel's team in the 3rd. And with that, season 1 is officially over.

The amount of home runs on the list is the amount they hit this year, so Mientkiewicz will get 6 and so on. 10 swings to hit the most. Top 4 move on, then top two, then our champ is crowned.

All-Star Logos Released

The CBL All-Star logo is this weekend, and here are the logos. The game will feature the best players in the league showcased in one game. Orlando is hosting the event. Two teams will be drafted by Commish Taylor, and... his friend? Neil Lommel. Next season, the format might be switched to world-USA game.

New Austin Roughnecks Identity

After a season that was terrible pretty much all the way around. Hoping to improve their luck, Austin has rebranded to what you see below. Hopefully this motivates a team who has the tools to make a run. The primary is updated with the new script, and the cap logo is a roughneck. The tertiary remained the same.
